Deanna made history in 1980 as the first Black princess representing St. Mary’s Academy! ✨
She excelled in leadership, was honored by the National Achievement Scholarship Program, and was active in her community—hosting a student from Costa Rica, attending the Urban League Leadership Conference, and working at an apparel shop.
She pursued her passion for foreign service at Fisk University before returning to Portland to study chemistry.

Following in her sister’s footsteps as princess, Dawna Rae shined at Franklin High School in 1975—on the Homecoming Court, as Miss Merry Christmas, Freshman Class President, and Junior Prom Queen.

Honoring Audry Renae Cobbs this Black History Month! 🌟
In 1970, she made history as the first Black princess from Lincoln High School and went on to pursue her love for music, becoming a voice teacher.
Audry was also a leader in her community, singing with the “Young, Black, and Gifted Singers,” serving as drill team leader, and president of the Girls League.
Born in Oakland, CA, and raised in Portland, her journey continues to inspire. Audry is a proud wife, mom of three, and a true trailblazer.

Welcome Kathy Nguyen to the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 Kathy, a Junior at Leodis McDaniel High School, is excited to bring leadership and enthusiasm to the Court this year. I was the Lieutenant Governor of Key Club. I was the Captain of the Dance team at McDaniel. I played tennis during my freshman year, and I am currently on the golf team at McDaniel. Her favorite place in Portland? Mount Tabor. "Biking up to Mount Tabor on a bright summer day is an experience like no other. The tree-lined streets, local shops, and public art along the way make the journey just as special as the destination. I’ve been coming here since I first learned to ride a bike, and it’s still my favorite place to watch sunsets and enjoy time with friends." Welcome, Kathy!
Welcome Sabrina Johnson to the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 Sabrina, a Junior at Cleveland High School, is dedicated to making a difference through leadership, volunteerism, and building strong connections with those around her. "I’m involved in a variety of activities at my school, including cheer, student council (where I’ve served as both Vice President and President), and speech and debate. I’m also pursuing a Full IB Diploma (Class of 2026). Outside of school, I volunteer with my youth group at the Northeast Emergency Food Program, helping sort and package food donations, organize supplies, and assist clients." Welcome Eleanor Isles to the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 Eleanor, a Junior at Grant High School, is passionate about leadership and can’t wait to be a part of the Rose Festival Court! "I’ve dedicated my time to creating opportunities for my peers, from co-founding my school’s Computer Science Club to advocating for ethical AI as a fellow at Encode Justice. Last summer, I spent 320 hours developing an AI cyberbullying detection algorithm during an internship at PSU. I’m also a huge reader—so much so that I started coding my own book blog to combine my love for storytelling and technology." For Eleanor, Powell’s Books is her favorite place in Portland. "Every time I step inside, I’m surrounded by endless stories and knowledge. Books allow me to explore new experiences—whether as a florist, a dragon slayer, or something entirely unexpected." "I’m a cheerleader at my school, dedicated to boosting school spirit. I’m also part of the swimming and tennis teams. In my free time, I love ice skating because of how graceful the sport feels. I am also a varsity letter recipient and leadership award winner for the Girls’ Tennis Team, a second-place winner in the Japanese Speech Contest, and a dedicated member of Student Leadership.” For Gloria, Columbia Park holds a special place in her heart. “It’s a place filled with cherished memories. I learned how to swim for the first time at Columbia Pool and spent countless hours playing on the swings and play structure during elementary school field trips.” Welcome, Gloria!
Welcome Ava Rathi to the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 Ava, a Senior at Lincoln High School, is thrilled to represent her school and community as a member of the Rose Festival Court this year. "I am involved in many activities at my school, including creating interactive art kits for pediatric patients, serving as the Captain of Speech & Debate, and earning 5th in State and the 'Proven Excellence' award in Informative Speaking. I am also a National Qualifier from North Oregon, Director of Finance and Civics Tutor for the Mission: Citizen non-profit, and a member of the National Honor Society. Additionally, I won the BWB Forum 'Happy Teens Website Design Challenge' and participate in Mock Trial. Outside of school, I enjoy drawing, sewing, painting, and skiing at Mount Hood. I also love reading thriller/mystery novels and watching horror movies." For Ava, the Japanese Gardens is a special place in Portland. "Its calm atmosphere and beautiful design make it a peaceful retreat. Welcome Meerali Patel to the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 Meerali, a Senior at Central Catholic High School, is honored to be part of the Rose Festival Court and eager to make a meaningful impact this season. "I am involved in many activities at my school, including being the leader of the Women’s Coalition, a varsity lacrosse player, and a Marketing and Communications Intern for the Communications Department. I also participate in Mock Trial, the Constitutional Debate Team, and serve as the Central State of Mind Coordinator, Leader, and Speaker. Outside of school, I volunteer at the Oregon Food Bank, work as a childcare facilitator, and manage social media for the Gujarati Samaj of Oregon. Welcome Isa to the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 Isa, a senior at Franklin High School, is excited to bring her passion and leadership to this year’s Court, representing her school and community. "I love reading, listening to music, and thrift shopping. Through my love for thrifting, I became a vendor at the Portland Vintage Market, where I sell my old clothes and donate the proceeds to CityTeam, a homeless shelter where I regularly volunteer. I also love the outdoors and can be found hiking, backpacking, skiing, and recently snowboarding in the Pacific Northwest." Her favorite Rose Festival event is the Fred Meyer Junior Parade, a tradition close to her heart. "It has always been hosted near my mom’s house in North Portland, and I have fond memories of watching it as a kid. Now that I’m older, I experience the childhood wonder from a new perspective." Welcome Esther Lian to the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 Esther, a senior at St. Mary’s Academy, represents herself, her school, and her community on the Court. "I love to cook, craft, and dance, and I’m always taking photos of anything that makes me happy. I enjoy walking and chatting with friends and hanging out with youth groups. When I’m alone, I like to watch movies, play games with my sisters, or journal about my day." For Esther, the Grotto is a favorite spot in Portland. "It’s one of the most breathtaking places I’ve visited. It’s a place of spiritual healing and connection with nature. The view is spectacular, and the Church inside the Grotto is so beautiful." Welcome Jayden Rendon Ramirez to the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 Jayden, a Junior at David Douglas High School, is grateful and energized to join the court. Jayden volunteers every weekend at her church and enjoys morning runs at the local park. She enjoys exploring hiking trails around Portland and hip-hop dancing to keep herself active. “I also have a deep love for fashion, as it allows me to express who I am through the clothes I wear." When it comes to Portland, Jayden’s favorite place to visit is SW Downtown. "The bustling city vibe, diverse culture, and endless restaurants and shops make it an exciting place to explore. I love how vibrant and dynamic the area is!" Welcome Jayden!
Welcome Ivette Hernandez to the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 Ivette, a Senior at Parkrose High School, is ready to join the Court and focus on giving back. "In my spare time, I enjoy reading a good book and listening to music. Although I don’t get much free time, when I do, I like to play video games and solve puzzles. Most of my time, however, is spent managing my school’s wrestling team, leading the finance club, and being involved in other clubs. I also enjoy playing tennis and volunteering at school and community events." When it comes to Portland, Ivette's favorite spot is Rocky Butte Natural Area. "I love it here! The greenery, the knowledge, and the breathtaking view of the city make it a peaceful escape." Welcome, Ivette! 🌹
