The Portland Rose Festival has inspired the public to gather and celebrate against a backdrop of historic external forces for 118 years, demonstrating how our community can carry on traditions and celebrate unity. As Portland's Official Festival, you are invited to participate in the Rose Festival's most inspired events like the Grand Floral Parade, Starlight Parade, Junior Parade, Queen’s Coronation, CityFair and Fleet Week. Deanna made history in 1980 as the first Black princess representing St. Mary’s Academy! ✨

She excelled in leadership, was honored by the National Achievement Scholarship Program, and was active in her community—hosting a student from Costa Rica, attending the Urban League Leadership Conference, and working at an apparel shop.

She pursued her passion for foreign service at Fisk University before returning to Portland to study chemistry.

This Black History Month, we celebrate Deanna’s incredible legacy! 🌟

Each princess will receive a $3,500 scholarship, thanks to the generosity of The Randall Group. We’d also like to thank @royalrosarians for their support of Court outreach and @shoplloydcenter for their generous support of the Court program.

In honor of Black History Month, we celebrate Dawna Rae’s incredible achievements! 🌟

Following in her sister’s footsteps as princess, Dawna Rae shined at Franklin High School in 1975—on the Homecoming Court, as Miss Merry Christmas, Freshman Class President, and Junior Prom Queen.

She also excelled in Varsity Track & Cross Country, the National Honor Society, and the singing group “Jubilation.”

Dawna Rae later attended the University of Oregon, majoring in English. 🐥💚

Her legacy of leadership and dedication continues to inspire! ✨

Honoring Audry Renae Cobbs this Black History Month! 🌟

In 1970, she made history as the first Black princess from Lincoln High School and went on to pursue her love for music, becoming a voice teacher.

Audry was also a leader in her community, singing with the “Young, Black, and Gifted Singers,” serving as drill team leader, and president of the Girls League.

Born in Oakland, CA, and raised in Portland, her journey continues to inspire. Audry is a proud wife, mom of three, and a true trailblazer.
